2018 Elsa Soderberg Distinguished Speaker Series

Nov 8th 2018 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM

This event will be held at the Auburn High School Auditorium (250 Lake Avenue, Auburn, NY).

The Seward House Museum is pleased to announce our speaker for the 2018 Elsa Soderberg Distinguished Speaker Series: Dan Abrams. Abrams, a graduate of Columbia University Law School, has been a court reporter since the early 1990’s and became a nationally known legal reporter while covering major trials like the Menendez Brothers and O.J. Simpson. He is currently the Chief Legal Analyst of ABC News, but is also notable for co-anchoring ABC’s Nightline and hosting The Abrams Report and Verdict with Dan Abrams on MSNBC.

Abrams is also a best-selling author and his newest book, Lincoln’s Last Trial: The Murder Case That Propelled Him to the Presidency, was released on June 5th. Shining a light on an often-overlooked aspect of Lincoln’s life, the book delves into the true story of a high profile murder trial that played out in the nation’s newspapers during the 1860 election. In Abrams’ telling, Lincoln the Presidential candidate also emerges as Lincoln the high stakes defense attorney. A loss in the trial that gripped national attention would surely have spelled the undoing of Lincoln’s Oval Office ambitions.

About the Book

"Dan Abrams and David Fisher write the heart-pounding pulse of history. Abraham Lincoln: the dusty shoes, the weary eyes, the Jedi mastery of a jury in a true case of life and death. So pull up a chair. This book not only brings a rare transcript to life, it makes you feel as if you are watching a live camera riveted on a courtroom more than 150 years ago." —Diane Sawyer

"You didn't know that Abraham Lincoln was the defense lawyer in a notorious murder case on the eve of his presidency? Neither did I. But Dan Abrams and David Fisher tell the remarkable tale in Lincoln's Last Trial, and the story is both compelling on its own terms and a lesson about some eternal truths about criminal justice." —Jeffrey Toobin, author of American Heiress
