Mission

The Mission of Seward House is

The Seward family demonstrated their values through a dedication to public service at the local, state and national levels, a commitment to social activism for the betterment of society, and a steadfast personal sense of moral responsibility and integrity.

Seward House accomplishes its mission by:

  1. Educating the public through programs that offer high-quality, well-researched, enjoyable experiences for a broad and diverse audience
  2. Producing exhibitions, workshops and special events that further the public understanding of the mission
  3. Preserving and maintaining the buildings, landscape and collections in accordance with accepted museum practices and policies
  4. Serving as a study center and private research library for scholars and students of nineteenth-century American history
  5. Developing fiscal and administrative policies that ensure efficient management and the historic integrity of the site
  6. Collaborating with other local and regional institutions as appropriate
  7. Contributing to the vitality and economic development of Auburn and its region
  8. Making the site and its resources as accessible as appropriate
